EDC Fixed Blade Knife

This is my faithful companion that has gone everywhere with me.  I do have and carry folders, but I feel a fixed blade EDC to be superior as I've seen folders fail and being without a usable knife is not an option in the Urban Jungle or out in the field. 

The knife I carry is the ESEE Izula in Black Oxide finish with the factory G10 handle scales.  Compact, Rugged, and lightweight.  1095 High Carbon Steel is tough, retains its edge fairly well, and super easy to sharpen, even in the field with primitive stone and water.  The black oxide finish has held up well and with regular maintenance, rust has not been an issue.   I pocket carry this with the factory plastic sheath.  Its simple and offers excellent retention while being easy to withdraw the knife for use.
 

This knife is comfortable to use and has done pretty much everything I've ever asked of it from opening cardboard boxes,  processed massive amounts of wood,  carved traps, cooking chores, small game & fish prep, and dressed out several deer over the years.  It basically weighs nothing and provides a tremendous value for what I've used it for.

Belt Knife

Whenever I am not pocket carrying my Izula, I will clip an Izula-II onto my belt.  It offers the same bulletproof features that the Izula has, but with a slightly longer handle with Micarta Grips that fills the hand a bit more than the more compact Izula. 

This also showcases what these knives look like with a stripped finish and a forced patina applied.  I've also included a photo of the Izula-II next to the standard Izula to show the size difference.

Field Knife

Whenever I am outdoors, I do bring a field knife with me.   Whether it be in the North Woods or on an outdoors adventure, a reliable field knife is an absolute must.

The criteria that I have for this is as follows:

Fixed blade

Full Tang (exposed preferred)

Stainless Steel or corrosion resistant carbon steel.

4" to 5" blade Length

I am currently using the Mora Garberg in stainless steel in the factory polymer scabbard as by field knife.  The light weight and absolute corrosion and weather resistance are hugely important for a belt carried field knife in the Northwoods of Minnesota.

The other two field knives I have in my carry rotation is the ESEE-4 with Extended G10 Handles from the Knife connection and the Morakniv Kansbol. 

All three are excellent options.

Utility Knife

The best utility knife that I have found is one of the cheapest as well.  The Morakniv 511 basic.  Light, handy, and insanely sharp, these small thin blades make short work of kitchen tasks as well as opening letters, boxes, and whatever light duty cutting task you throw at them.  The polymer handle and scabbard are weather proof and I especially like the large handle which makes using this with gloves in cold weather easy, 

The one I use is the 511 Basic in carbon steel which I've applied a corrosion resistant patina finish to.
